at Lentorre Lodge
The ecosystem surrounding Lentorre is home to an incredible array of wildlife. It is an area that is true, old, pure Africa and this is evident in the remoteness, privacy and primal energy.
With the warmer temperatures in our area, the wildlife behaviour is generally to relax in the shade during the day and come out at night to water and eat, especially a lot of the predators which are nocturnal in the area. You can hope to see all manner of fascinating creatures from large prides of lion to the tiny ant-lion, the majestic elephant, the elusive leopard, the elegant giraffe to the little armoured dung beetle. Exploring the area during the evening, and after dark with spot lights to look for the tell-tale reflection of eyes as we search for wildlife is exhilarating. We aim to provide a true safari experience and do not apologise for it; we ask our guests to embrace it. We believe drives are not about having to see something, but about truly looking and tracking and appreciating your surroundings. With that mindset every single sighting is special.
Learn More About ActivitiesLentorre can be reached by light aircraft, we have an airstrip a 40 minute drive from camp, alternatively you can take a fascinating three and a half hour road transfer from Nairobi.
Deep in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, beyond the volcanic lunar landscape surrounding the soda lakes of Magadi and Natron, deep in the heart of the Olkirimatian Conservancy, lies the oasis of Lentorre.
Fed by crystal clear springs running off the South Loita and Nguruman escarpments, Lentorre provides the perfect spot to relax and soak in the wonders of a wild and untouched Africa.
Lentorre is set on a spur running off the Nguruman Escarpment beside a natural spring in the heart of the Olkiramatian Conservancy, a community initiative developed by the local Maasai community to protect their wildlife, traditional lifestyle and their heritage.
Nestled in this natural amphitheatre, Lentorre provides uninhibited views of Mt Shompole, Ol Donyo Gelai and the active volcano Ol Donyo Lengai. The spring behind the lodge provides a constant source of cool fresh water and sustains a grove of venerable tamarind trees where the Olkiramatian warriors traditionally met as they came of age and elephants continue to gather to feed on ripe tamarind.
